Biographical / Historical
The Mississippi Project refers to a program organized by the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO, a coalititon of major civil rights organization working in Mississippi in the early 1960s). The program's goals were to "bring a large number of students, teachers, lawyers, and many others to Mississippi for varying lengths of time to teach, do welfare work, picket, work on voter registation, etc".
