Reed's Music Matinee Series started in 1970 and ended in 1998.
"The Reed Music Matinees began in 1970 as a series of free Sunday afternoon concerts held at the College Commons. The purpose was to sponsor chamber music ensembles and solo performances of noted Northwest area artists and bring the College closer to the community in an informal concert setting. The initial success of these concerts prompted Professor Ottomar Rudolf, founder of the series, to organize the Reed College Associates, a non-profit organization, to aid in funding these concerts. Since then, the concert schedule has been expanded to between eight and ten performances, starting in September and continuing throughout the academic year. Funding is partially accomplished by membership dues and partially by the donations of the business community and by Reed College. The annual budget runs between $10,000 and $15,000."
