Biographical / Historical
Byron L. Youtz was acting president of Reed from 1967 to 1968. Born 1925 in Burbank, CA, Youtz received degrees from the California Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley. He taught at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, then began teaching physics at Reed in 1956. He served as executive assistant to President Sullivan, and then became acting President when Sullivan left. Youtz also worked at State University New York, Old Westbury and Evergreen College.
