Biographical / Historical
Born in 1930, George Andrews Hay received a BA from Swarthmore and a PhD from MIT before arriving at Reed as an assistant professor of economics in 1956. Hay taught at Reed for 27 years. During that time, he served as director of admissions, vice president-treasurer, executive vice president, special assistant to the president, and acting president from 1980-81 during President Bragdon’s sabbatical.
