Scope and Contents
This collection includes safety and annual reports, correspondence, contracts, clippings, and other documents concerning Reed’s nuclear reactor, also known as the Reed Research Reactor. "General Information I" includes excerpts from the oral history interview transcripts of Emeritus Chemistry professor Tom Dunne (1963-1995), and Reactor Director Stephen Frantz, in which they discuss the history leading up to the building of the reactor and the role that Chemistry Professor Arthur Scott played in bringing it about. The "General Information I" folder also includes copies of the "Reactor Newsletter".

Biographical / Historical
Established in 1968, the Reed Research Reactor (also known as the Nuclear Reactor) is a TRIGA Mark I reactor. The reactor is used primarily for educational and research purposes. According to the 1998-99 Reactor Facility Annual Report, the reactor received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s reactor Use Sharing program through the Nuclear Science Consortium of the Willamette Valley, which allowed other schools to benefit from use of the reactor.
