Biographical / Historical
Reed College’s first classes took place in 1911 in a temporary Downtown Portland location, while the Southeast Portland campus was still under construction. The college’s first two buildings, built on a tract of farmland in Eastmoreland, were the Dormitory Block, also known as the Old Dorm Block, and Eliot Hall. Architect Albert Doyle designed much of the original campus. Since then, the Reed College campus has continued to change, as new buildings have been added (or removed). The grounds, including the canyon, have undergone their own transformations.
