Biographical / Historical
The Reed College Talented and Gifted Program (TAG) was a joint program designed by Portland Public Schools and Reed College from 1980 to the present. Its goal was to give Portland-area high school students a chance to sample college level work in fields of interest to them. In September, 1978, President Paul E. Bragdon appointed a committee to explore ways in which Reed might serve populations beyond the 17- to 22-year-old college-age group. The result of this committee was an interdisciplinary conference for high school students held in March of 1979. Since then, the program has morphed into TAG activity camps and the Young Scholars program.
