Biographical / Historical

The Office for Student Engagement, previously known as the Student Activities Office, coordinates student orientation, campus events, student organizations, and other aspects of student life at Reed College. Other significant Office for Student Engagement programs include Reed Arts Week, the Student Activities Fair, and Gray Fund activities.

The Office for Student Engagement offers an orientation program for incoming freshmen. In 1937, the program was known as "the freshman course," and it included lectures on study habits and student government. Over the years, the program has morphed, and has included optional service or outdoor trips in addition to lectures.
