Reed College Academic Departments collection
Dates
- Creation: 1911-2015
Biographical / Historical
According to a college catalog, in 1912, Reed College offered undergraduate courses in education, astronomy, and mechanical surveying. Those classes aren’t available to Reed students anymore, though majors like English, economics, and history remain part of the curriculum. Now, students can study linguistics or computer science, and interdisciplinary majors like American Studies, Comparative Race and Ethnicity Studies, and Neuroscience have emerged. The academic departments collection, which contains syllabi and other materials concerning academics at Reed, chronicles the many changes to majors, departments, and curricula over the years.
