Scope and Contents
The Richard Potter Collection consists of three wooden cases of laboratory slides from his science classes at Reed College, with specimens such as onion root tip, spleen of a rabbit, and so on. There are 64 slides in all.

Biographical / Historical
Richard Lyle Potter was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He graduated from Reed College in 1950 and received his PhD in biology from the University of Rochester. He joined California State University, Northridge, where he taught courses in physiology from 1961 until his retirement in 1992. Potter’s biology thesis title at Reed was A Study of the pigments in the wings of certain lepidoptera with special reference to chemical tests and their application to taxonomy. Richard Potter died on November 14, 2014, in Northridge, California.
