Scope and Contents
This collection contains the presidential files of William R. Haden, Reed College acting president from 1991 to 1992. The papers include correspondence, speeches, calendars, reports, and other documents relating to Reed College. Includes various memos, outlining Haden's appointment to Acting President of Reed College; his appointment to President of Wesleyan; letter outlining layoff's, student enrollment shortfalls, and specific staff placed on "permanent layoff".

Biographical / Historical
William R. Haden was born on April 29, 1942 in Beckley, West Virginia. He was appointed acting president of Reed College by the board of trustees in 1991.
Haden holds a B.A. in political science from West Virginia University and an M.P.A. from George Washington University. He worked as the vice president for development in alumni relations at the University of Chicago before coming to Reed as the vice president of public affairs. In 1995, he left Reed to become the president of West Virginia Wesleyan College, before retiring and returning to Portland in 2006.
