This collection contains the presidential files of Steven S. Koblik, Reed College president from 1992 to 2001. The papers include correspondence, speeches, calendars, press clippings, inaugural congratulations, and documents relating to Reed College and other organizations Koblik participated in.

Biographical / Historical

Steven S. Koblik served as Reed College president from 1992-2001. Born on August 10, 1941 in Sacramento, California, Koblik earned a B.A. in history and Scandanavian languages and literature from University of California Berkeley (1963), an M.A. in international relations from the University of Stockholm (1964), and a Ph.D. in history from Northwestern University (1970).

Koblik was the Warren Finney Day Professor of History at Pomona College from 1968-1991, and received three Wig Awards for outstanding teaching. He was the dean of faculty at Scripps College from 1989-1992, and later served on the Board of Trustees. Koblik was active in numerous civil service organizations including the Loaves and Fishes and the “I Have a Dream” Foundation, and was a member of the governor’s task force on higher education and a trustee of the Boys and Girls Aid Society of Oregon.

Upon leaving Reed, Koblik became the president of the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, California, before retiring in 2015. He was married to Kerstin C. Olseni and had two children.
