Biographical / Historical
Dexter Merriam Keezer served as president of Reed College from 1934 to 1942. Born in Acton, Massachusetts in 1885, Keezer graduated from Amherst College in 1920, received an MA from Cornell 1923, and a PhD from the Brookings Graduate School of Economics and Government in 1925. He worked in government, as an instructor at several colleges, and as a journalist before arriving at Reed. After Reed, Keezer established an economics department at McGraw-Hill Publishing Company, where he became well-known for his annual surveys. He later became vice president of McGraw-Hill.
