Note from FileMaker: William T. Foster arrived in Portland, or initially on june 20 (monday), 1910. Thomas Lamb Eliot's diary entry for tuesday, june 21st lists a dinner being held for WT Foster, and Foster's telegram dated june 16, 1910 states he will arrive "next monday" in Portland, from Banff, where he stopped his journey to mountain climb. (note by mtk, from research conducted by gw & mtk for inquiry, 5/16/2007) [from TLE's diary entries: the trustees formally voted to hire Foster as Reed's first president at their trustee meeting of friday, june 24, 1910, sending him a letter to this effect, dated the 24th--the end of his first week's visit to Portland; the amount of salary initially was noted as $5,000 per year, but a letter dated later in july, 1910 has raised the salary to $6,000]
